Google search switching to mobile first index – Digital Minute 18/10/16

Back in September 2015 Google declared that it was experimenting with a mobile only index in order to address a number of ranking signal issues for mobile.

One year on and a recent announcement from the search giant discussing a full split seems to suggest we could see an official launch sometime in 2017.

Michael Hayden, SEO Lead at Stickyeyes takes a closer look.

3 Things to Do If Your Google Rankings Drop (Don’t Wait! Use These SEO Strategies Immediately!)

You may have some high Google rankings at the moment, but eventually, you are going to lose them. The question is just when.

When this happens here is what you should do:

1. Log into Google Search Console – through Search Console you can see what pages lost traffic. It shows you which pages are going up and going down over time.

Now that you know what page has lost traffic, Google the terms that the page is ranking for and look at the top sites who currently rank. What are they doing differently than you? How does their content compare to yours?

2. Adjust your pages – Google Search Console will show a list of keywords your page used to rank for. Integrate those keywords onto your page and make your content more thorough.

You can’t just stuff in keywords, it needs to flow naturally.

3. Double check your meta tags – make sure your keywords are within your title tag and meta description.

Once you have done that, submit your URL to Search Console again, they will crawl it, and within a few weeks, you should get more search traffic and higher rankings.

Mobile-Friendly Test Tool is Dead | Mobile usability report and Page Experience report gone from GSC

Thanks, Notix, For Sponsoring This Video. Try Notix Today: https://bit.ly/3HRSdhV

Official Announcement: https://developers.google.com/search/blog/2023/04/page-experience-in-search

Is SEO dead? Not quite! For those who have always struggled with SEO, it might have always seemed that way. However, Google has recently introduced some changes that could leave you confused and might require some changes in your strategies. That’s why today’s video is all about these updates!

I am Amit Tiwari from amittiwari.net, and in this video, we’ll be discussing the latest changes in Google Search Console. Before we dive in, I want to give a shout-out to our sponsor, Notix, for making this video possible.

Let’s have a quick overview of the four changes, and then we’ll break them down one by one:

1. Google Search Console’s Mobile Usability report will be removed starting December 1, 2023.
2. On the same date, Google will shut down the Mobile Friendly Testing Tool and its API.
3. In the coming months, the Page Experience report will also be removed from Google Search Console.
4. Page Experience will now become part of the Helpful Content system.

If all these terms seem overwhelming, worry not! I’ll be explaining each change in detail.

1. Google Search Console’s Mobile Usability report is being removed, but mobile-friendliness remains a crucial factor for websites. Google wants you to pay attention to this aspect on your own instead of relying on the report.

2. The Google Mobile Friendly Test Tool is being discontinued, alongside the Mobile Friendly Test API. Google recommends using Lighthouse to test for mobile issues.

3. The Page Experience report will be removed from Google Search Console, but the importance of optimization remains. Google believes webmasters should focus on a comprehensive approach to website optimization rather than chasing specific metrics.

4. The Page Experience system will now become a part of the Helpful Content system. This means that the quality of a page’s content and its user experience will both be considered when evaluating its helpfulness.

If you’re still not clear on these changes, don’t worry! Watch the full video for a more in-depth explanation of each change and how it affects your website’s performance on Google. Don’t miss out on this important information – make sure you’re up-to-date with the latest developments in the SEO world!
